The Great Trustee Exit

Early in 2002 (in fact just before the end of 2001 - Senior and well respected Mystics started to leave the clan. there was a bust up on the ruling body between Mystic Viking, Mystic Mongol, Mystic Saracen and Mystic Spaniard and it was much more serious than I had ever expected. It resulted in almost half of the clan leaving, including many trustees and a deputy leader!

This was the mass exodus of our members:

21 December 2001 Mystic Mongol Trustee
28 December 2001 Mystic Turk Trustee
01 January 2002 Mystic Spaniard Trustee
08 February 2002 Mystic Mayan Trustee
15 February 2002 Mystic Viking Deputy Leader
22 February 2002 Mystic Saga Controller
22 February 2002 Mystic AToM Royal
24 February 2002 Mystic Japanese Trustee

What really hurt us was that they were such senior members and the heart of our clan. Sure we had many other members and sure other left too at the time, but what really hurt was the demoralised feeling in the clan at the time.

This mass exodus was not solely as a result of a bust-up. Mighty Mystics were adopting a new game called Empire Earth and many of us were playing it, but these members wanted to continue with AOC, but for some reason, didnt want to do it in our clan... So they left and created their own clan called Argonauts. (Mystic Japanese did not join them)

2002 was a hard year for Mighty Mystics with recruit applications going down from 20 a month to just 4 in June 2002, but we still had a hard core of loyal members who saw us through those difficult days. These members were: Mystic Korean, Mystic Darkloq, Mystic Saracen, Mystic Acer, Mystic Teuton, Mystic Magyar, Mystic Hun, Mystic Sourmash, Mystic Thor, Mystic Chaos, Mystic Ratboy, Mystic Chinese, Mystic Serb and Mystic Zeb. These members continued to visit the site and chat on our forums.

In July 2002 Warcraft III was released and soon Hun and I were on Battlenet trying it out. We LOVED this game, and Saracen, Firebat, Ratboy and others joined us online for games. Unfortunately this game did not grasp the imagination of the clan and they soon started to abandon it. Hun and I continued to play it though with Ratboy and Saracen.

In August 2002 the ruling body were formed, they consisted of the most trusted members at the time, they were: Mystic Briton, Mystic hun, Mystic Saracen, Mystic Acer, Mystic Darkloq, Mystic Ratboy, Mystic Sourmash, Mystic Chaos. Now, instead of all decisions being made by the leaders, decisions were made by the ruling body and there was always someone around to help out the rank and file members.

In November 2002 a big storm hit the home of Hun and I and downed our website for over two weeks. Nevertheless, the clan rallied its members and stayed in contact with each other, not abandoning the Mighty Mystics, they knew that I would have it back up again soon! Sure enough I climbed telephone poles and got the site back up again ready for the launch of Age of Mythology.

Initial trials of AOM were encouraging and it wasnt long before the Mystic Camp started to buzz again! - Membership applications just swarmed in. I adpoted a new strategy of allowing all members to recruit, this certainly increased the activity of the clan a great deal and at the end of 2002 Mighty Mystics were back to full strength again!
